These are repeater input channels available. These channels can serve as repeater input frequencies
for channels 15 to 22. The higher end walkie-talkies such as the
Motorola MR355R are repeater capable
and will be able to use these range extending capabilities.

Channels 8-14 are FRS regulations only, so .5 watt (500 Mw) output is
the maximum permitted by law on these channels. The other GMRS channels are good for up to 50 watts output,
from a mobile installation. The repeater input channels are limited to 5 watts output.
To transmit on any GMRS frequency, you need a Federal Communications Commission (FCC)
license. Presently the license fee is $85 but that is good for the whole family and an unlimited number of
radios. Remember, you're breaking the law if you are transmitting on GMRS channels without a license.
Note that if all you are using is channels 8 to 14 and you're using 500 Mw output maximum with a fixed antenna (a
typical bubble pack radio is programmed this way), you're in the Family Radio Service and you do not
require a license.
